The Orchard Centre

The Orchard Centre is a 16 place moderate learning difficulties (MLD) Centre at The Hermitage Junior School. Historically, we used to be known as a Learning and Additional Needs (LAN) Centre. The resources provision remains the same, the acronym has just been changed. Decisions about which children will be placed in The Orchard Centre will be made by the Local Authority, Surrey County Council and not by The Hermitage School admissions process. They will decide where the child’s needs are best met from the arrangements which can be provided. This is part of the Annual Review process or consultation for Key Stage transfer.  You will not receive a placement by applying directly to the Hermitage Junior School. The children are all members of a mainstream class but access their core learning in The Orchard Centre.

The purpose of the Centre is to ensure that children are given the chance to reach their full potential at a level suitable for their needs.  Children work in small groups, supported by adults and the work is differentiated to support their individual targets.

Outside agency support

If a child needs additional support, we have access to advice from outside agencies.  Some of the outside agencies that we work with include Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and the Physical and Sensory Support Service.  We also have access to a Speech and Language Therapist and assistant who work with us on a weekly basis.
